Cookie & Gift Exchange

Welcome to December, Chicago!!!
And what a welcome it was...in true Chicago fashion December came with snow and the first of many "scraping off the car" mornings.

Our last MOPS meeting of 2008 will be December 11th. We will be doing and cookie & gift exchange this year.

Cookie Exchange:
Your mission - Bring 3 dozen cookies.
We'll provide the trays. You'll take home one of each type of the wonderful yummy treats brought by each mom. You can keep the tray of sugary goodness for yourself or opt to give it to a friend. We will also be giving a tray to each Moppets worker as a gift of our appreciation.

Gift Exchange:
Your mission - bring an item valued between $5 - $10
Make sure it's something that You would want to recieve, please - we are not doing silly gifts this year.
We will do a "White Elephant" style game to distribute the gifts.

So, that's it for this posting. Don't forget to bring your cookies & your gift to the meeting! We'll see you there!

Peace and Blessings this holiday season!

Chicago Public Schools

It has been far too long since I updated our blog!
November just flew past me with no hint of it slowing down in time for December.

We were blessed to have Ellen Lourden from the Chicago Public School system come and speak to us about the ins and outs and various, numerous options we have for our children when they reach school age. If you missed the meeting, but have questions, or if you attended the meeting, yet still have questions - please feel free to e-mail Ellen at elorden@cps.k12.il.edu.us (I will double check this e-mail address and repost later if need be).

We were also blessed to have Debbie Rundquist (she works and her children work in our Moppets department) speak with us about home schooling. If you have questions for Debbie, contact Katie Smiljanich and she will put you in touch with Debbie. sulkat77@hotmail.com

I will be posting again very soon with information about the upcoming meeting in December.

Have a Happy Thanksgiving and we'll see you in time for the Holidays!

Happy Halloween!

It's just one week until Halloween! You know what that means...a chilly night outdoors, dressing up in crazy looking outfits, knocking on friends' and neighbors' doors, and dealing with children who have had waaaaaay too much candy.

We wanted to get the word out about a couple of events going on with New Life Lakeview & New Life Lincoln Park.

New Life Lakeview will NOT be having their Harvest Party indoors this year. Instead, they will be outside with hot chocolate, apple cider, cookies, candy, face painting, and some fun stuff for the kids.

New Life Lincoln Park is teaming up with Park Community Church for an outdoor block party celebration! The address is 1110 W Lill (near Sheffield & Fullerton). There will be games, candy, hot drinks, and much more. In the event the weather is bad, this will be held indoors at New Life Lincoln Park.

I'm sure there are several other events going on in the community, these are just 2 options for you to check out.

Be blessed and we'll see you in November at our next MOPS meeting!

DoxaSoma

I hope everyone is enjoying this crisp, fall season! I know I am.

We were blessed to have had Nadia come speak with us last week about nurturing our children's spirits. She gave us some wonderful examples, insights and ideas. If you'd like to learn more about Nadia and check out some of the tools she spoke of at the meeting, her website is in the previous post below.

This coming week, Oct 23, we will have Kim Sopata leading us in a beginners introduction to DoxaSoma. What is DoxaSoma? The word DoxaSoma is comprised of 2 Greek words: Doxa, meaning "praise or honor"Soma, meaning "body". DoxaSoma is the a physical practice which incorporates elements of stretching and strength building with prayer, worship, and reflection upon the Word of God. Want to learn more? www.doxasoma.com

Dress in comfortable clothing and if you have a yoga mat, please bring it. We will have some available, but we have a limited supply. Also, please arrive on time, or early even, so we can start promptly at 9:30am.

I look forward to seeing everyone again! Be blessed!

Digital Scrapbooking

Greetings!
Our first MOPS meeting of the year was great! It was so wonderful to see so many familiar and so many new faces! I look forward to seeing everyone again soon.

Our 2nd meeting of the year is This Thursday, Sept. 25th. We will have a guest speaker from Creative Memories talking to us about the joy and simplicity of Digital Scrapbooking.

Do you know what digital scrapbooking is? I'm not 100% sure what it is, but I'm familiar with traditional scrapbooking...the painstaking process of getting all my paper, photos, stickers, cutters, trimmers, croppers, etc. out and having it consume my kitchen table. Let's face it, there has got to be a better way! Maybe this is it...we'll find out Thursday.

Look forward to seeing everyone there! Our next meeting will be October 9th - Nurturing Your Child's Spirit with guest speaker Nadia Swearingen-Friesen. Check out her blog at: http://NadiaSwearingen-Friesen.blogspot.com

God bless and we'll see everyone soon!
